Created in 1995, the aim of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas is to present and promote the cinema of Asian territories, enhance intercultural dialogue and encourage the discovery of other cultures through cinema.
Every year, the festival shows around 90 features from whole Asia through different sections: Competition (9 fiction & 8 documentary features; min. French Premiere), main topic (Liberty, Equality, Creativity; Women Speak; Asian Families…), a focus on a country (Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Tibet, Laos, Cambodia…), a tribute to an Asian figure (Ronit Elkabetz, Mohammad Malas, Wang Xiao-shuai, …), a special section (Asian Shakespeare adaptations; Japanese Culinary movies, …), Japanime, Young Audience, Premieres… Amidst some guests of past years: Hou Hsiao-hsien, Kore-eda Hirokazu, Jia Zhang-ke, Brillante Mendoza, Im Sang-so, …).
